Despite the misleading name, the true black cumin (Nigella sativa), also known as Roman coriander, is not related to either the true caraway or the cumin, instead it belongs to the buttercup family. The original home of black cumin is in Western Asia, Iraq and Turkey, where it has been used for at least 3500 years.
