Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) owes its name to an ancient legend according to which the white stripes on its leaves come from the milk of the biblical Virgin Mary.
The active ingredient silymarin is found throughout the plant, but is concentrated in the fruits and seeds. Silymarin acts as an antioxidant by reducing the production of free radicals that would otherwise attack body cells, has an antifibrotic effect and can act as a toxin blocker by inhibiting the binding of toxins to the receptors of liver cells. The milk thistle seeds from which our milk thistle oil is gently and mechanically cold-pressed come from the European Union and are grown under strict quality and environmental protection guidelines - only the best of the milk thistle ends up in our capsules.
